Abstract/Description

Best-selling author and Johns Hopkins researcher Susan Magsamen kicked off Morris Arts' new health initiative at the Morris Museum on January 22, 2025. As co-author of Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us, Magsamen explored how engaging with the arts—such as music, dance, and visual expression—can enhance brain function, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being. She discussed the emerging field of neuroaesthetics, which examines the biological and psychological effects of artistic experiences. Through research-backed insights, she highlighted how creative activities can be integrated into daily life to support mental health. Her talk set the stage for Morris Arts’ broader initiative, which aims to promote the intersection of art and wellness in the community.
