Leo Ross

Hello! I am an undergraduate student studying Music for New Media. I am fascinated by the world of Neuro Arts and I am beginning to explore how I can apply this passion to my work in media scoring. In addition to my studies I am a member of the Music For A While program where I write music designed to support patients’ emotional well-being in a hospital setting
Leo Ross, a Baltimore native, is a composer and musician studying Music for New Media at the Johns Hopkins Peabody Institute. He was recently accepted into the European Academy of Fine Arts film scoring summer program, where his compositions will be recorded by the European Film Orchestra.
Leo’s music has already gained recognition on the festival circuit. He scored the short film Portrait of a Man, directed by Aishat Abiri, which screened at the Maryland Film Festival and NewNext Film Festival, and won the 2025 Audience Favorite Award at the MICA Film Festival. His compositions are known for their strong melodies and emotionally resonant harmonies, enhancing narrative impact.
Beyond film, Leo explores music’s connection to wellness. As part of the inaugural composer cohort of Music for a While, a Johns Hopkins program in partnership with Johns Hopkins Medicine, he creates works performed in hospital spaces to uplift moods, reduce anxiety, and provide comfort for patients, staff, and visitors.
An accomplished instrumentalist, Leo is a dedicated saxophonist active in Baltimore’s Gospel church community and has studied piano internationally at the 2025 Interharmony International Music Festival. Passionate about cinematic storytelling and music’s transformative power, he seeks to create works that inspire, heal, and connect audiences.
Interests
My interest lies in musical composition for media and how to incorporate neuro arts into that work. I am also interested in music therapy, in both research and practice .
