Programs & Activities
The Angel Ticket program provides free concert tickets to local social-service nonprofits to distribute to low-income individuals and those in need throughout the community. Partner organizations receiving Philharmonic Angel Tickets include WRC, Family Services Association, United Neighborhood Centers, the Lackawanna County Library System, the Pittston Library, and many more. Another initiative, RxArts NEPA, is a new arts prescription program that will provide direct support of, and improved access to, concert tickets, museum and park passes, arts activities, and creative arts therapies to address a broad range of associated health conditions, especially mental health and social isolation for older adults. "Music in Our Schools" (MIOS) brings Philharmonic musicians into schools to perform for students, who interact with the musicians and learn about the instruments. A juried Mentorship program provides opportunities for talented high school students, regardless of socioeconomic status, to have coachings with Philharmonic musicians and perform side-by-side with the orchestra every year. The "Young People's Concert" (YPC) annually brings 1,300+ schoolchildren in grades 3-6 to a live, interactive concert with the orchestra, side-by-side on stage with Mentorship students, taking children on an exploration behind the music in tandem with custom classroom materials. Philharmonic musicians and Mentorship students frequently perform in libraries and senior centers across the region, sharing the joy and creativity of music through interactive performances for all ages and backgrounds. In Fall 2025, the Philharmonic will present its first Sensory Friendly chamber concert, in partnership with Autism Awareness NEPA, the Pittston Library, Children's Service Center, the Gregory Center, and additional partners and stakeholders for the Autism community in Northeastern PA.
