I am interested in exploring shared processes between researchers in the arts and the sciences especially in the areas of human movement potential and non-verbal communication. Touch research and how it relates to partnering practices and well-being is of particular interest for me at the moment.

Stephen Pier is an internationally respected performer, teaching artist, choreographer, and director. He performed extensively with the Royal Danish Ballet, the Hamburg Ballet, the José Limón Company and as a guest artist throughout the world. His repertoire extends from Petipa, Bournonville, Balanchine, Cranko, Kylian, Limón, and Neumeier to an array of contemporary dance makers, earning critical acclaim as, “a dancer of tremendous taste and insight”, “highly defined, a tour de force”, and “one of the most gifted dancers on the modern dance scene today.” Mr. Pier taught for the Royal Danish Ballet’s company and school while serving as ballet master and dancer from 1990 -1996 and was a full-time faculty member of the Juilliard School from 1996-2010. There he helped establish and direct the innovative Mentoring Program. In addition to directing The Hartt School Dance Division, Pier continues to perform, create, collaborate, and direct in multiple performing artforms and various research projects including Opera, Theater, Dance, Film, Culinary Arts, American Psychological Association.
Mr. Pier is featured in the recently released book, Movement at the Stillpoint, an Ode to Dance (https://movementatthestillpoint.com/) by Mark Mann.
