New member of this Community, looking forward to conversations and projects
November 20th, 2025Hi all, I'm Doug and I have just joined the Neuroarts Resource Center and I am looking forward to getting to know you and learn what you are working on. I am a Ph.D. Neuroscientist in the private sector, and I design, build, and measure outcomes in sensory spaces. I am interested in how changes in interoception and exteroception shape personal experiences, particularly in the Health and Wellness areas (with other applications in Education and Hospitality). I work with light, sound, and other modalities and more recently with non-drug induction of Psychedelic states of awareness (can we achieve beneficial health outcomes by shaping the sensory environment?). I work primarily with the aging population, and also have interests in pediatric and NeuroDivergent groups. Some of the areas I am interested in include the perceived intensity, potency, and memorability of sensory experiences (and the opposite - boredom), alertness, arousal, mood, sleep quality, stress and relaxation, pain perception, healing and recovery, meditative states, depression, body image dysmorphia, post-surgical dysphoria, and task performance. I know that sounds like a lot, but they all share a common toolbox. Feel free to reach out for a chat some time, and I intend to become involved in events and activities of the Center.
