Immunity: Performance and Dialogue

A free concert by cellist and long COVID survivor Joshua Roman for those with chronic illness, families, caretakers, and providers. Immunity explores his long COVID journey through performance and storytelling—moving through doubt, struggle, refocus, and renewal. Featuring music from J.S. Bach to Caroline Shaw to Roman's own compositions, it bridges the arts and health. Access in person or Patreon
Joshua Roman, an Arnhold Creative Associate at Juilliard, is a cello soloist and composer, hailed for his “effortlessly expressive tone… and playful zest for exploration” (New York Times), as well as his “extraordinary technical and musical gifts” (San Francisco Chronicle). His genre-bending programs and wide-ranging collaborations reflect an “enthusiasm for musical evolution that is as contagious as his love for the classics” (Seattle Times). Joshua has lived with Long COVID for more than three years and is a patient at Mount Sinai’s Long COVID clinic. Read the New York Times article on his experience here.
Researchers at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, the VA, and Nova Southeastern University are proud to partner with Joshua's "Immunity" project to raise awareness about long COVID. Through the power of music and conversation, this event aims to shed light on the experiences of those living with long-term effects of COVID-19 and foster a community of support and understanding.
Joshua Roman knows experientially the healing power of music through his own long COVID recovery and is partnering with the University of Miami to seek research grants that will scientifically quantify music's therapeutic effects on chronic illness.
Anyone in South Florida is welcome to come in person. Masks will be provided and are kindly recommended for all attendees. For those not in the area, join the free livestream of the concert and conversation via Joshua's Patreon. Become a free member, go to the Patreon at the start time of 12pm EST on December 11 and you will have access to the livestream when it begins!
In person performances of Immunity will also be held in Atlanta, Philadelphia and New York City.
