Lancet Photo Essay Launch at the Guggenheim Museum

The Jameel Arts & Health Lab–Lancet Global Series on the Health Benefits of the Arts features a powerful photo essay spotlighting global health initiatives supported by the arts. The 30 featured images tell compelling stories of what can—and could—be achieved through creative approaches to health and well-being. Each photograph was selected for its artistic quality and its genuine impact in health and psychosocial contexts, often highlighting under-represented communities and complex care environments.

This celebration at the Guggenheim will bring the photo essay to life through an inspiring evening of live jazz by the Felix Rocque Quartet, a cello performance by Stephanie Winters, and a closing poem in the theatre before the reception. Guests will also hear opening remarks from leaders at the Guggenheim, The Lancet, WHO, and Community Jameel, followed by talks and photo presentations from global experts in health, culture, and the arts.

Key contributors include Cyra Levenson (Guggenheim Museum), Miriam Sabin (The Lancet), Prof. Nisha Sajnani (NYU Steinhardt/ Jameel Arts & Health Lab) and Stephen Stapleton (Culturunners /Jameel Arts & Health Lab), alongside a diverse group of artists, researchers, policy experts, and health practitioners from around the world.

Held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, this reception is part of UNGA Healing Arts Week—a citywide celebration of the arts and health produced by the Jameel Arts & Health Lab.
