The Florida Division of Arts and Culture, part of the Florida Department of State, is the state's official arts agency. Its mission is to promote arts and culture as essential to the quality of life for all Floridians by providing grants, programs, and resources that support artists, cultural organizations, museums, arts education, and community engagement.

General Program Support (GPS) Grant

The General Program Support (GPS) grant is the Division's largest recurring funding program and one of its most relevant opportunities for NeuroArts organizations. GPS provides general operating support (rather than project-specific funding) to Florida arts and cultural organizations whose ongoing work advances the state's cultural objectives. Organizations engaged in arts and health, creative aging, community wellness, arts education, music therapy, dementia programming, disability arts, or other NeuroArts-related initiatives may be competitive if arts programming is central to their mission.

Who Can Apply?

  • Florida nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations
  • Public entities (local governments, universities, school districts, museums)
  • Local Arts Agencies
  • State Service Organizations
  • Arts education organizations
  • Organizations with at least one year of completed arts programming

Funding Amount

  • Awards range from $1,000 to $150,000, depending on organizational budget, legislative appropriations, and program category.

NeuroArts Relevance

Potentially eligible organizations include those offering:

  • Arts and health programming
  • Creative aging initiatives
  • Music and dementia programs
  • Community wellness through the arts
  • Arts-based mental health services
  • Inclusive arts programming for people with disabilities
  • Arts education supporting cognitive, emotional, and social well-being

  • Applications are submitted through the DOS Grants portal during the annual application window (typically announced in summer). Applicants should consult the current guidelines for exact opening and closing dates.
  • Applications for Fiscal Year 2027-2028 are open NOW
  • Next Deadline: July 10, 2026 5 p.m. (EST)
  • Grant Period for Next Application Cycle: July 1, 2027 through June 30, 2028

Why It Is Relevant to NeuroArts

Although GPS is not a dedicated arts-and-health program, its flexible operating support makes it highly valuable for organizations delivering NeuroArts-related programming. Because funding supports an organization's overall mission rather than a single project, it can sustain long-term initiatives involving creative aging, community health, arts-based mental health, music and dementia, social prescribing, and interdisciplinary arts and wellness programs.
