Herb Alpert Foundation Funding Opportunity
The Herb Alpert Foundation is a philanthropic organization that supports initiatives centered around the arts, arts education, compassion, creativity, youth development, and well-being. The Herb Alpert Award in the Arts is an annual award supporting innovative mid-career artists working in dance, music, film/video, theater, and visual arts. The award is intended for “risk-taking” artists whose work pushes creative boundaries and contributes meaningfully to culture and society. The foundation strongly supports programs connecting the arts with healing, well-being, youth development, and social impact relevant to interdisciplinary artists, arts-health researchers, community arts programs, music-and-brain initiatives, and organizations exploring the intersection of creativity and human well-being. Applications are nomination-based: approximately 100 artists are invited to apply each year following nomination by arts professionals and panelists. The award is administered through the California Institute of the Arts and primarily supports U.S.-based artists and arts initiatives. Funding areas include arts education, jazz initiatives, artist support, and compassion/well-being programming, with many projects emphasizing the transformative role of the arts in society.
