Abstract/Description
Greenwood Life Community (GLC) is an assisted living facility envisioned to bridge the gap between independent living and nursing home care in Greenwood, Delaware. Developed by the author’s family, GLC’s mission is to honor elders as unique, valuable individuals made in God’s image, supporting their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The planned design incorporates a circle of small, home-like 8–12 bed residences surrounding a shared courtyard to encourage socialization, activity, and community connection. Inspired by the Greenhouse Project model, GLC emphasizes a resident-centered philosophy promoting dignity, independence, and meaningful engagement.
Operationally, the plan outlines five management domains—organizational, personnel, financial, environmental, and resident care. Leadership will focus on recruiting compassionate, multi-skilled staff, creating a supportive culture, and establishing a governing board for oversight. Financial planning will ensure stability through clear budgeting, collaboration with existing facilities, and responsible growth. The environment will be homelike, accessible, and physically engaging, with universal design principles and outdoor spaces. Resident care will emphasize personalized attention, consistent assessment, and integration with the wider Greenwood community through shared activities and local involvement.
Rooted in faith and compassion, Greenwood Life Community seeks to embody a holistic model of care that values aging as a sacred, purposeful stage of life.
