Abstract/Description

Through the lens of health humanities, this chapter reflects on agency in how music can benefit people’s health and wellbeing. Across three sections, it discusses creative health in terms of: a) the limitations of adopting expert-to-recipient therapeutic approaches such as social (and cultural) prescribing; b) “mutual recovery” as disruptive of deficit and passivity frames in clinical or therapeutic interventions; and c) the superabundance and non-human agency of therapeutic assets (music or otherwise) in the fast-changing world of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
