Abstract/Description
Expressive Arts Journal: A Guide Toward Self-Reflection and Resilience is a free downloadable creative resource designed to support individuals and communities navigating change, loss, and personal transformation. The journals were developed by expressive arts practitioner Alisha Kalisher after her family lost their home in the Altadena fire, and grew from a desire to offer an accessible creative process for reflection and healing.
Rooted in expressive arts practice, the journals combine guided visual art-making and reflective writing prompts that invite participants to explore emotions, memories, and personal meaning through image, color, symbol, music and language. The process emphasizes curiosity and self-expression rather than artistic skill, making it accessible to people of all creative backgrounds.
Three versions are available for children, teens, and adults. Each follows the same overarching creative arc with developmentally appropriate prompts, allowing individuals, families, classrooms, and therapeutic groups to engage with the process together or independently. The journals are offered as a free resource for personal reflection, therapeutic support, and community healing.
