Indulging in the Arts Is Proving to Have Major Health Benefits. Could Creativity be a Hidden Longevity Hack?
An emerging body of science suggests that everything from visiting gallery shows to taking on your own creative projects can keep you healthier longer. Looks like it’s time to dust off that guitar you bought in college.

Abstract/Description

From their studies, researchers at the lab have learned that Americans who experience the arts just once a month or more, say by going to museums, galleries, or performances, are about 20 percent less likely to be depressed. They see similar benefits for participating in the arts, through things like playing instruments or even singing in a church choir. An emerging body of evidence shows that having a life rich in engagement with the arts, whether as a creator or an enjoyer, could be the latest—and likely most rewarding—longevity hack.
