[CALL] 1 Research Grant for Post-Doctoral Fellow: Philosophy of Cinema

Duration of the scholarship: The fellowship will last for 12 months and is non-renewable. The expected start date is September 1, 2026.

The project FILM AND DEATH FILM AND DEATH - Film-Philosophy as a Meditation on Death, funded by the European Union (European Commission) under the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program (European Research Council, Grant Agreement No. 101088956), is seeking to recruit 1 (one) Post-Doctoral Fellow in the following terms.

Research field: Philosophy of Cinema

Requirements:

  • The candidate must hold a PhD in Philosophy, relevant to the project’s thematic focus, obtained within the three years prior to the date of submission of the fellowship application.

Preferential requirements: Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate proficiency in English.

Work Plan: During the course of the fellowship, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research into the relation between film genres, horror cinema and death, notably through the following activities:

  1. To diligently carry out all activities necessary for the implementation of the proposed project, including the submission of two articles for publication and participation in academic events relevant to the field;
  2. Organize, together with the PI and other members of the FILM AND DEATH team, workshops dedicated to the relationship between film genres and death, as well as the corresponding teaching materials and other dissemination initiatives associated with the project, as part of an approach that requires knowledge of the philosophy of Stanley Cavell and Gilles Deleuze;
  3. To participate actively in the various activities organized by the FILM AND DEATH research group.

Benefits: The monthly pay is €1,901.00, per the salary table for research fellowships directly funded by FCT, I.P. in Portugal. Fellowship holders who are not covered by any social protection regime can exercise their right to social security through adherence to the voluntary social insurance regime (SSV), under the terms of the Contributory Schemes of the Social Security System, if they choose to enroll in it, as well as personal accident insurance.
