Qualifications

Master's degree in education, museum studies, or related field preferred; 5–7 years of progressively responsible museum education experience with leadership responsibilities.
Experience developing educational programming, managing teams and budgets, and contributing to institutional strategy.
Strong communication, curriculum development, organizational, and relationship-building skills; flexibility for occasional evenings/weekends.

Lead the museum's Learning & Engagement Department by developing innovative educational programming, strengthening community partnerships, and expanding public access to the arts.
Collaborate across departments to create inclusive, audience-centered experiences aligned with the museum's mission.
Supervise departmental staff while serving as a senior leader helping shape institutional strategy.

The Joslyn Art Museum is Nebraska's largest art museum, housing more than 12,000 works spanning 5,000 years and offering free general admission.
Following its major campus expansion, the museum serves more than 200,000 annual visitors, with over 100,000 participating in education and engagement programs.
The Director reports to the Executive Director & CEO and oversees 25 staff members and contractors, including four department heads.

Roles & Responsibilities

Strategic Vision

Develop and implement the museum's long-term Learning & Engagement strategy aligned with exhibitions, collections, and community priorities.
Champion accessible, inclusive programming for audiences of all ages while integrating learning across museum initiatives.
Serve as a strategic partner across departments and strengthen community-centered engagement.

Team Leadership & Operations

Lead and mentor the Learning & Engagement team while overseeing public programs, school partnerships, tours, lectures, studio classes, and community events.
Build partnerships with schools, artists, and community organizations; evaluate program effectiveness using data and feedback.
Manage departmental budgets, staffing, resources, and represent the museum in professional and public settings.

Salary: $100,000–$110,000 annually, with potential annual bonus.
