Our art therapy program offers an immersive learning experience utilizing psychotherapeutic principles' theoretical and practical applications. Through various interventions and in myriad settings, you will be exposed to contemporary approaches, evidence-based practices, and research methodologies including art-based inquiry.

At Herron, art-based practice meets science-based evidence. Our program's robust relationships with professionals in the art therapy field provide internship and practicum assignments, giving you deep on-site experience in a variety of settings from community mental health organizations to pediatric hospitals.

The Master of Arts in art therapy program at Herron School of Art and Design at IU Indianapolis is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Council for Art Therapy Education (ACATE).

Developed in accordance with the guidelines established by the Accreditation Council for Art Therapy Education (ACATE), Herron's Master of Arts in art therapy prepares you with the academic, clinical, and research experience necessary to apply for the Provisional Registration as an Art Therapist (ATR-P) through the Art Therapy Credentialing Board (ATCB) and for Licensure as a Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) in Indiana.
