Member of the inaugural cohort of the Neuroarts Investigator Awards. Original project title was Rhythms of connection: Exploring relationships between rhythmic music making and social connectedness in persons living with dementia and their caregivers.

I am a Postdoctoral and Atlantic Fellow for Brain Health Equity with the University of California San Francisco's Memory and Aging Center and Global Brain Health Institute. I study musical rhythm and social and emotional functioning in older adults living with and without disabilities (OAWD). My team's work for the Neuroarts Investigator Award had two objectives: 1) to improve access to participatory music programs in underserved communities of San Francisco; and 2) to offer professional development opportunities to students of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. We explored how participatory musical rhythm production may associate with connectedness between underserved OAWD and musicians from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Interests

My interests are both broad and focused. Regarding breadth, I love imagining traveling to far off locations for elaborate vacations that require inordinate amounts of time to truly plan and pay for. Regarding focus, I am a disciplined competitive ultimate frisbee player and violinist. I deeply enjoy the social and physical opportunities provided through Ultimate and live music making, both in recreational and more performative/competitive settings.
