Blue Hands Art

We are a collective of artists who come together to share the art of dyeing with indigo by hosting accessible dyeing events for the community. As a for profit organization, we introduce people to the awe-inspiring process of dyeing with indigo and our bottom line is to provide an experience that conveys the joy, delight, and accomplishment people experience in creating something.
At Blue Hands Art, we are passionate about sharing the joy and delight that dyeing with indigo inspires. Our hands-on workshops and products are designed to bring people together, fostering creativity and connection with each other and our past. Our enthusiasm for what we do motivates us, distinguishing us from others. We are more than just a service provider; we are your partners in building a better community through the transformative power of art and creativity. Our mission is to bring awareness to and continue the art of dyeing with Indigo, while we make the creative process of dyeing with indigo accessible for everyone. We hope to inspire those who need guided exposure to artistic endeavors that may otherwise not be explored. We hope to expose a larger portion of the community to artistic and potentially personal exploration into creativity. We hope our “risk free” creative endeavors sow a deeper appreciation for the arts and help contribute to a vibrant community alive with poetry, music, galleries and art events
Programs & Activities
Blue Hands Festivals are a single-day event lasting three hours. Festivals accommodate 25-30 attendees and are typically held in the courtyard of the Manitou Art Center. Thanks to support from the MACH Grant and the Manitou Springs Community Foundation, admission is $10 for adults, while children under 18 can attend for free. Typically open to the public, this event can be hired as a private event.
Blue Hands Clubs meet monthly on Friday evenings for a duration of three hours typically in the Manitou Art Center's Dye Lab. These gatherings are limited to a maximum of 12 participants, offering a more intimate experience compared to the Festival. During Club sessions, both new and returning members explore various shibori techniques led by instructors. Participants have access to Indigo Vats, allowing them to work at home and bring their creations to dye in our vats. Typically open to the public, this event can be hired for a private event.
Mobile Blue Hands brings the experience of Blue Hands Art to you. The events vary in length from forty-five minutes to three hours and are held at different locations throughout Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs. We can accommodate 12-30+ people, depending on location and event.
Lecture Series typically take place at the Manitou Art Center but can be coupled with a mobile blue hands to make an all-day event. Lectures on indigo and different aspects of fiber are meant to educate and broaden the public's knowledge on all thing's textiles.
Blue Acorn Art Labs are collaborative workshops and art events meant for groups to explore creativity using collage, photography and drawing techniques.
