Carey Kirkella

I'm an award-winning photographer, teaching artist, and creator of The L.E.N.S. Method®, a photography-based approach to mindfulness, self-awareness, creative self-care, and meaningful connection. Informed by my lived experiences with mental health and caregiving, I help people see themselves and their lives in new ways and connect meaningfully with community, using the camera in their pocket.
I'm an award-winning photographer, teaching artist, and creator of The L.E.N.S. Method®, a photography-based approach to mindfulness, self-awareness, creative self-care, and meaningful connection using the camera in your pocket.
Drawing on over 20 years of photography experience and my personal journey with mental health and caregiving, I developed LENS to help people become more present, shift their perspectives, reconnect with themselves, and connect with others through visual storytelling.
I've facilitated community workshops and multiweek programs, including a series with Brooklyn Public Library. I'm passionate about exploring the intersection of photography, emotional well-being, consciousness, and human connection.
I'm excited to connect with researchers, artists, and organizations exploring the transformative potential of the arts, contribute my experience as a practitioner, and explore opportunities for collaboration and research into the impact of intentional photography on well-being.
