Gene Beyt, MD, MS

Gene is an educator and photographer. He has over 45 years of experience as university faculty, a physician executive, coach, consultant, author, and visual artist. He is a student of art-based discovery and healing after experiences of trauma.
Gene Beyt is a professor at Tulane University, where he teaches human-centered design and patient-centered innovation. He puts human needs and wellbeing at the center of all that we do. Over the last 50 years, Gene has been a fine art photographer. His photographs have been paired with poetry in the tradition of physician-author Walker Percy and published in the book The Quotidian. His current work makes use of the camera as an instrument of discovery. As a traveler in a strange land, he searches for an understanding of story and for enlightenment.
Interests
Gene is interested in the many forms of trauma, how the brain and the body respond to trauma, and stories of photography as part of a healing journey.
