IRENE LOPEZ GUTIERREZ

As a postdoctoral researcher, I explore how the immune and nervous systems communicate to shape health, disease, and aging. I’m passionate about how the arts influence brain and immune function, and I’m driven to uncover connections between science, creativity, and well-being.
I’m a researcher focused on brain–immune interactions in aging and neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular interest in Alzheimer’s disease. My work explores how communication between the immune system and the brain shapes disease progression and brain health across the lifespan.
Outside the lab, I’m deeply engaged in the arts—pottery is my main creative practice, but I also explore other forms of artistic expression, especially watercolor painting. These experiences have fueled my fascination with how engaging in the arts can influence brain function, modulate the immune system, and enhance emotional well-being. I’m passionate about advancing research on how creative activities might be harnessed to support treatments for neurodegenerative diseases and mental health, and I’m eager to connect with others working at the intersection of neuroscience and the arts.
