Katie Stranix, AIA, is an architect and educator whose work lies at the intersection of design, sensory experience, and human well-being. As an Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia and co-founder of the design collaborative Office of Things, her practice explores how architectural elements—like form, color, light, and sound—directly impact the senses to heighten the human experience.

My work in practice and my academic research focus on the design and analysis of restorative spaces - architectural elements, enclosures, and environments that act as a foil to their more active and cognitively demanding surroundings. I'm interested in how empirical evidence can inform our creative intuitions as architects and broaden our understanding of comfort beyond physiological considerations.
