LAURIE MARSHALL
For 40 years, I have focused on using creative collaboration and storytelling as a Leadership training tool. I practice Peace Building through Art inspired by Nature. I have served mostly low-income children, families and their schools as an Arts Integration and Project Based Learning specialist. I am the founder of Unity Through Creativity Foundation and the Singing Tree Mural Project.
As a certified K-12 Art and Social Studies Teacher, I also have training in the Waldorf Curriculum, Conversational Intelligence, Peace Literacy and Outward Bound. My B.A. from Antioch College in history and education, and M.A. in art and education from Beacon College laid the groundwork form my use of visual art and storytelling in consensus building, leadership training and conflict prevention.
The Singing Tree Mural project was inspired by an 8-year-old girl who asked, in 1999, "What if the whole world made a painting together?". That has become my sacred assignment. 159 murals have been by over 28,000 people from 65 countries.
The clients of Unity Through Creativity also include NASA; FEMA; the Army Corps of Engineers; the Department of Interior; the U.S. Botanical Gardens; Azbil (a Japanese robotics company); a local car dealership; public schools, hospitals and prisons around the United States and refugees in England, Cyprus and Uganda.
After 15 years in California, I now live in El Paso, Texas with my husband, Tom West, where I am a member of the El Paso Quaker meeting. I am a fierce mother of two sons and grandmother of two grandsons.
