Marianne Huebner

Art therapist, Community educator at HopeWay
Charlotte, NC, United States

I am a licensed art therapist and Community Education Specialist at HopeWay with over 20 years of experience developing innovative art therapy programs, facilitating meditation groups, and public speaking. A national presenter and former president of the Wisconsin Art Therapy Association, I am passionate about using creativity as a tool for healing, insight, and meaningful growth.

I am a licensed art therapist and Community Education Specialist at HopeWay, a mental health treatment program in Charlotte, NC. Throughout more than 20 years in the field, I have had the opportunity to help develop and grow art therapy services in hospitals, community organizations, and now within HopeWay's continuum of care.

My professional journey has included presenting at conferences, teaching graduate-level art therapy courses, and serving in leadership roles within the art therapy profession. Early in my career, I worked extensively with individuals impacted by trauma, including survivors of abuse and those seeking to heal from patterns of harm. These experiences shaped my belief in the power of creativity as a pathway to healing, connection, and growth.

At Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, I was part of efforts to expand access to art therapy for patients and families across a variety of settings. Since joining HopeWay in 2016, I have continued to support individuals on their mental health journeys through programs that integrate creative expression with clinical care.

I believe art therapy is not about artistic talent or creating a perfect piece of art. Rather, it offers a unique way to explore emotions, gain insight, and reconnect with what matters most. My goal is to help create spaces where people feel safe to express themselves and move toward a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

Interests

A lifelong learner, I am fascinated by the connection between creativity, the brain, and overall well-being. In addition to my work as an art therapist, I am a professional artist whose work has been exhibited nationally for more than 35 years and, more recently, internationally.

Giving back to the community is also important to me, and I have been an active volunteer with the Charlotte Humane Society since moving to Charlotte in 2014. When I'm not working or creating art, I enjoy exploring the outdoors through hiking, biking, and kayaking, as well as attending community and performing arts events and traveling.
