Matt Wisotsky
I am a performing musician, composer, administrator, and student of the arts. My main artistic focus is expanding access and interest in the musical ecosystems that I am part of, through supporting and participating in community-based arts initiatives.
As a musician, I am primarily trained in contemporary classical and jazz, and I am especially interested in the intersection of the two.
Matt Wisotsky is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and arts leader based in Madison, WI. He is co-founder, composer, and woodwind specialist for The Vilasi Project, an improvisatory chamber ensemble, and he performs with the Madison Gamer Symphony Orchestra and Verona Area Wind Symphony. His compositions have been performed in venues including Overture Center for the Arts, Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, and Chapin Hall at Williams College. His Concerto for Orchestra and Jazz Combo was awarded Highest Honors by the Williams College music department following the 2023 premiere by the Berkshire Symphony.While off the stage, he is editor of the Greater Madison Jazz Newsletter and a Music Programming Committee member at Art Lit Lab, where he organized the Neuroarts Festival & Sound Garden as an inaugural LAB^4 curator, bringing in over 4700 attendees to Olbrich Botanical Gardens over 4 days of interdisciplinary events.Matt completed undergraduate studies at Williams College in music and math, where he received the Robert G. Barrow Memorial Prize for Music Composition and served as president of Jazz@Williams. He is currently a MA candidate at the UW-Madison Bolz Center for Arts Administration, after which he plans to continue supporting community arts and holistic wellbeing through innovative and nontraditional programming.
