D.Soyini Madison, PhD, FMCHC. The PhD is in Performance Studies; I am also a Certified Functional Medicine Coach.
I have spent over five decades exploring how art, creative communication, and human wellbeing intersect. My career spans roles as a professor, scholar, author, performer, playwright, stage director, author, and international field researcher on local human rights interventions.

Across international classrooms, theaters, communities, and research environments, my work has consistently focused on an essential idea: creative expressions can transform who we are, how we learn, remember, connect, and understand the world.

After decades of teaching and research, I am now dedicated to exploring the question: What happens in the brain and therefore the body when we engage with art?
I am interested in joining and working, across the board, with others committed to how scientific research increasingly shows that creative engagement activates multiple brain networks and the growing body of advocates who believe that creativity as artistic making and beholding are also biology and powerful pathways for supporting brain health, wellness, and cognitive vitality.

Interests

I am hoping MindBeamArts can collaborate and join with others in the fields of NeuroArts, because creative engagement is an aesthetic experience AND a powerful biological process that supports cognitive health and emotional well being. My hope in becoming a supportive and active member of the NeuroArts Resource Center and NeuroArts Movement is to also join with your actions and words "How to help people who are left behind."
