Mount Royal University Conservatory
Founded in 1911, as part of Mount Royal University, the Conservatory provides music and speech arts education. ArtsCare Hub is an initiative seeking to develop programming at the intersection of arts, music & healthcare; conduct applied research; provide education & training for those working in arts, music & healthcare; and act as a hub connecting organizations in Canada working in the field.
The ArtsCare Hub will achieve these aims through four areas of activity:
Programming – Develop and deliver a broad range of cost-effective music and speech arts programming, working independently and with music and art therapists, to support health, mental health, and wellbeing. Programs will be offered on campus and in the community with collaborators to facilitate access to programming where there is the highest need.
Research – Collaborating with colleagues across MRU and throughout Calgary and the surrounding area, conduct research to demonstrate the positive impact of arts engagement on health and wellbeing, supporting World Health Organization (WHO) initiatives. Establish MRU as a leader in this field, enabling collaborations and providing work-integrated learning opportunities for students.
Education & Training – Develop innovative training programs for musicians, positioning MRU as a leader in arts care. Attract students and professionals to the region and expose them to arts-based career paths that are in addition to the more common performance- and/or education-focused careers, building greater capacity in this field.
Hub – Create and maintain a central database to map arts care resources in Calgary, Alberta, and Western Canada, addressing the current information gap. This database will serve as a resource hub to facilitate collaboration between local provincial, and national researchers and practitioners, benefiting both service providers and users.
The Conservatory offers music and speech arts programming and education for individuals and groups, 0-100+ years old.
