Mya Johnson

Hello!
My name is Mya Johnson, but I also use the pseudonym "Mywai" when engaging in my creative practices. I'm currently an MA Candidate at New York University studying the implications of dance and music on the brain, while curating spaces for people to engage with these art forms as a DJ and movement artist outside of the classroom.
Mya “Mywai” Johnson is a DJ, movement artist, but also a curator of intersectionality, exploring the healing properties of dance and music on the brain.
As someone exploring the healing properties of the arts, whether she’s studying how we can build upon the therapeutic qualities of dance or creating spaces for people to socialize through music, her night isn’t over until she’s got you moving. An open format artist with a special fondness for early 2000’s hip hop and jersey club mixes, you can expect a robust blend of sonic pleasantries with Mywai in the DJ booth.
Currently a resident DJ at Henrietta Hudson in Manhattan, Mywai has played for various venues along the east coast as well as for rapper Kelvyn Colt.
Prior to her work as a master's student and creative in New York , Mywai attended Harvard University where she obtained her bachelor's degree in Neuroscience with a minor in Theater, Dance, and Media. Throughout her time in Massachusetts she was awarded Harvard's Suzanne Farrell Dance Award (2025) and University of Colorado's Art of Science Fellowship (2025) , DJ'd Harvard's German American Conference at Boston's Prudential Center (2024), served as the Secretary for Harvard's Society of Black Scientists and Engineers (2022-23), and took strides to explore and grow in both the arts and sciences.
Mywai is currently pursuing an MA in Neuroaesthetics at New York University.
