Currently reimagining the arts-in-health programs at The Creative Center. Designing and building creative initiatives for those affected by cancer, chronic illness, caregivers, older adults and healthcare staff. Maintaining own art and clinical private art therapy practices.

Sheila Fontanive is an artist, licensed art therapist and the Director of The Creative Center. Prior to joining The Creative Center, Sheila worked as an art therapist, supervisor and director at nonprofit agencies throughout NYC for over 18 years, providing art programming for children, adults and families. Sheila’s interest in creating and growing programs is a creative expression, reflecting her dedication and commitment to promoting health and healing through the arts.

Sheila graduated from Barnard College with a B.A. in Art History and worked as a commission-based mural artist before attending the School of Visual Arts, where she obtained her Master’s degree in Art Therapy. Sheila is currently in private practice and provides art therapy consultant services for Fashion Institute of Technology. Sheila maintains her own art practice, creating figurative paintings and collage-works that provide a space for professional self-processing.
