The Center for Health Design

The Center helped create the industry’s first and then largest conferences and publications including the Healthcare Symposium, Healthcare Design, Environments for Aging, and in 2024 became the Strategic Educational Collaborator for ASHE (American Society for Health Care Engineering) and the PDC Summit, producing a 24-session track – Research, Design and Outcomes – for the 2025 Summit and beyond.

Certification and Outreach
Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC):
Our internationally recognized EDAC program awards credentials to individuals demonstrating the ability to apply an evidence-based process to facility design, including measuring and reporting results. The program offers professionals in the healthcare and design communities complete preparation for the EDAC exam and continuing education for maintaining EDAC certification.

Built Environment Network, (BEN):
Our premier collegial network of executive-level professionals dedicated to improving safety, quality, and sustainability in healthcare.

Environmental Standards Council (ESC):
A multidisciplinary volunteer group of healthcare facility executives, design professionals, regulatory agents, product manufacturers, and educators committed to improving the regulatory standards of the Guidelines for the Design and Construction of Healthcare Facilities.

Awards and Recognition:
As a sponsor for several award programs, CHD recognizes outstanding projects, products, and individuals that have contributed to the evidence-based design field, helped to advance the healthcare design industry, or demonstrated exemplary facility and product design.
