This paper looks at how Bharatanatyam, a South Indian classical dance, acts as a cognitive system that connects movement, emotion, and storytelling. Using ideas from embodied cognition and neuroscience, it shows how choreography, mudras, and expression can boost brain flexibility, emotional depth, and memory.

Abstract/Description
This manuscript examines how Bharatanatyam, a South Indian classical dance, functions as a cognitive system that integrates movement, emotion, and storytelling. Drawing on theories of embodied cognition and supported by neuroscientific evidence, the paper highlights how choreographic practice, mudras, and abhinaya shape neural plasticity, emotional intelligence, and narrative construction. By bridging dance, cognitive neuroscience, and nonverbal communication, the study advances understanding of how complex movement systems foster cognitive development, affect regulation, and memory encoding.
